Local Montesano company is seeking a Cost Analyst to join their team. The applicant selected will be required to provide management with costs associated with purchasing/shipping merchandise to determine cost-saving techniques and listing prices. 

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning, studying, and collecting data to determine costs of business activity, such as the purchase of merchandise and raw material purchases, shipping costs, labor, etc.
  • Analyzing data, collecting and recording results via established spreadsheet or other methods as instructed by management
  • Analyzing costs quarterly to determine any increase in total cost
  • Recording cost information for use in controlling expenditures
  • Extrapolating and analyzing shipping costs (exact and estimated), manufacturing costs, and labor costs of merchandise shipped using TFS, FBA, and FBM to prepare and analyze reports
  • Providing management with reports and specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability or products and services
  • Researching methods to lower shipping/labor costs and present findings to management
  • Attending continuing education seminars to increase knowledge in the field
  • Assisting inventory specialist with physical inventories and cycle count programs
  • Conducting periodic time studies as directed by management
  • Ensuring all cost analysis spreadsheets are updated to current costs
  • Working with representatives-- as directed by management-- or search via manufacturer's website to prepare periodic reports of out-of-stock or discontinued merchandise, and report to management and additional staff members directed by management.
  • Creating estimates for new and proposed product costs
  • Analyzing actual manufacturer costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs

Skills Needed

  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office software
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in cost accounting
  • Must have strong cost system background and have excellent analytics skills and sound understanding of accounting principles
  • The ability to accurately prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
  • The ability to stay focused in a potentially distracting environment
  • The ability to self-motivate and find projects that will enhance company efficiency and during slow periods, to take regular opportunities to research to increase personal knowledge in the field
  • The ability to respond to customer messages and phone calls in a polite, friendly, knowledgeable, and professional manner
  • Must provide reliable personal transportation
